Based on discussion with health professionals and the elucidation of prominent issues with general understanding and knowledge of medical information, Deep Dives was created to address the gap between medical/scientific information and the general public. The goal of Deep Dives is to provide as in-depth as necessary, an engaging discussion and writeup on a specific medical, health, or scientific topic. These topics include, but are not limited to:

• Discussing an advancement in our understanding of scientific phenoma
• Discussing an advancement in medical practice
• Discussing an advancement in medical technology
  • Complex advancement in specialties such as surgery
  • Advancements that have more mainstream effects
• Applications and potential drawbacks of advancements 
• Discussion regarding global health crisis 
• Discussion regarding health disparity in developing countries and underserved communities

These are just some of the broad strokes of the topics that will be discussed. The aim of Deep Dives is dual fold. Not only are we here at Interconnected diversifying our knowledge base and understanding of the field, but we are breaking down the information into a simple manner and improving the communication of scientific/medical knowledge to the general public. 

Deep Dives is also a component of our Connecting Stars mentorship program. Often students never get to learn or apply scientific reasoning skills and are thrust into dynamics that may discourage them from pursuing medicine or science or create feelings of inadequacy. This is especially true if they have not had the resources from their current educational landscape. Therefore, we encourage students both in high school and college to pick a topic that interests them and guide them through the process of writing their deep dive that will then be posted on our site!
